The Position:
The Colleges seek a part-time faculty member in Emergency Medical Care. The ideal candidate will share the Colleges commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.

This position is a "pool" position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available. The District maintains a "pool" of applications for positions which are needed on an ongoing basis at Caada College, College of San Mateo, and Skyline College. The advantage of "pool" positions is when a position becomes available, the Dean may immediately begin screening applications from the available pool of applicants without having to post a position and wait while the position is being advertised. Your application for this position will be kept current for a period of two years.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed by the incumbent(s) of any particular position.   1. Teach courses in the Emergency Medical Care Department; develop and evaluate curricula appropriate to the different learning needs of students as well as develop student and program learning outcomes.
  2. Create a learning environment that promotes and stimulates learning for every student.
  3. Use and stay abreast of appropriate emerging teaching techniques and technologies.
  4. Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours.
  5. Serve as a member of department, division, college, and district committees.
  6. Perform other professional duties as required by contract or divisional and institutional needs.
  7. Collaborate with groups on and off campus on projects that support Emergency Medical Care.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Possession of any bachelors degree or higher and two years of professional experience OR any associate degree and six years of professional experience OR the equivalent (see below). The professional experience required must be directly related to the faculty members teaching assignment
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff as these factors relate to the need for equity minded-practice both within and outside of the classroom
  • Valid California ID/Drivers License (or the ability to obtain one)
  • Imagetrend Account as required by the County (or the ability to obtain one)
  • A valid Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-Basic) License
  • Completion of the NAEMSE Level 1 Instructor Course by start date

Physical Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  1. Successful work and teaching experience in emergency medical care, paramedic, or related fields
  2. Commitment to and proficiency in creating curricula and methods of delivery that reflect the highest industry standards and practices
  3. The ability to motivate students from a broad spectrum of academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds
  4. Assist with the maintenance and organization of lab equipment to support program growth, enhance student success, and ensure that supplies are accurately ordered, tracked, and readily available for instructional needs
  5. Assist in accurate student record documentation and program accreditation/compliance reporting
  6. Knowledge of law, ethics, and current regulations as applied to the emergency medical field
  7. Experience in computer applications and emerging technologies for emergency medical technicians
  8. Experience or familiarity with student and program learning outcomes development and assessment for emergency medical care courses
  9. Assist with college-wide and department activities to assess and improve student learning
  10. Experience working and collaborating with outside medical agencies and ambulatory organizations
  11. Understanding of and commitment to the role and purpose of the community college, including the mission and values of the College
  12. The ability to use teaching methods that emphasize cooperation and collaboration and engage students actively in their studies, encouraging them to become critical thinkers and independent learners who demonstrate cultural sensitivity and understanding of interdisciplinary approaches
  13. An understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff

Foreign Education completed outside of the United States must be deemed equivalent to that gained in conventional/accredited U.S. education programs in order for it to be considered for the satisfaction of minimum qualifications. Foreign transcripts must be translated and evaluated by a U.S.-based credentials evaluation service. The District currently accepts evaluations from agencies approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

8. Have fingerprints taken by a Live Scan computer (Clearance must be received prior to first day of employment). Please note that the California Education Code requires, in part, that community college districts shall not employ or retain in employment persons in public school service who have been convicted of certain felonies, a misdemeanor drug charge (including alcohol offenses) or misdemeanor moral turpitude (sexual offense) crime. However, consideration may be given to those whose drug convictions occurred more than five years ago. A conviction for other crimes may not necessarily disqualify you from the job for which you may be applying.
