The Position:
The Director of Student Support is responsible for the effective development, alignment and coordination of student support services and academic pathway programs at Canada College. This includes responsibility for the Learning Center and its services as well as for managing the College's Interest Area Success Teams and their coordination with all other special programs on campus providing supports to students (such as Promise, EOPS, College for Working Adults, International Program, TRIO SS, etc). This position is dedicated to ensuring that each student seeking a degree, certificate or transfer from Canada College is well connected to and supported by college academic support and student support programs as they pursue their educational goals.
Under the supervision of the Dean of Academic Support and Learning Technologies, manage the College Learning Center through the supervision of full-time, part-time, and hourly staff, including Program Coordinators, Tutors, Writing Center staff, and overall Center operations. Supervise the delivery of Learning Center academic support services - supplemental instruction and tutoring - to support all students, particularly those academically underprepared to succeed in program-relevant transfer-level math and English courses by the end of their first year. Under the supervision of the Vice President of Student Services, coordinate, oversee, and continuously improve the operations of the College Interest Area Success Teams - including supervision of Success Team specialists, peer mentors, and faculty leads - and their collaboration with other special programs and learning communities to ensure all students - full-time and part-time - are supported with: onboarding and matriculation; retention and persistence; completion of education goals. The Academic Manager work year consists of twelve (12) months.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed by the incumbent(s) of any particular position. - Coordinate and direct academic and student support services to create effective, cross-campus communication via the CRM, Early Alert Systems, Accudemia, PRIE reports, and regularly coordinating meetings of Success Team members as well as a community of practice for retention specialists and program services coordinators supporting students
- Collaborate extensively with faculty, including Writing Center Coordinators, Interest Area faculty, and other discipline and department leads to respond to Early Alerts, the need for supplemental instruction and/or embedded tutors or other services that assist with student retention and persistence
- Provide college-wide leadership in addressing equity and obligation gaps, particularly for minoritized and traditionally under-served students
- Plan and implement staff professional development activities, as needed
- Plan and monitor program budgets; assist in campus-wide program review processes and related data-gathering and reports, and prepare reports on categorically-funded and college budgets
- In collaboration with the Planning, Research and Institutional Effectiveness Office, plan and coordinate program assessment and evaluation for all Learning Center and Interest Area Success Team programs in alignment with college and district strategic planning goals
- Provide leadership in relevant participatory governance bodies and continually informs the campus community regarding resources and essential programs on matters pertaining to the academic support and student support services at the college
- In alignment with college equity goals and antiracism initiatives, continuously monitors and tracks progress towards equitable access and impact goals related to the college antiracism initiatives for Learning Center and Guided Pathways programs and services, and implement recommendations and action steps to address equity gaps and identified solutions

Minimum Qualifications:
- Possession of a Masters degree or above from an accredited institution OR possession of a California Community College Supervisor Credential OR the equivalent
- Two years of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment, including experience in one of the following fields:
- in the management or administration of educational programs, community organizations, government programs, or private industry in which the applicant supported racially minoritized people or persons impacted by language, social, or economic disadvantages OR
- as a community college counselor or instructor or have comparable experience in working with underserved communities
- Completion of a minimum of six units of college-level coursework predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or persons impacted by educational, language, or social disadvantages
- Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff
Physical Requirements:
This classification requires multi-tasking, flexibility, adaptability; accurate work under deadline pressure; attention to details; listening, good memory, sensitivity and tact; persuasive communication; negotiation; compromise; manual dexterity; working independent of direct supervision or specific guidelines; data analysis in order to perform the essential functions.
Equivalence to Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated experience addressing and/or closing racial equity gaps within student support programs; knowledge of best practices in tutoring and learning assistance programs and experience building and managing related programs and services
- Working knowledge of categorically funded programs, regulations, and related policies and procedures
- Experience responding to federal, state, or granting agency rules, regulations, and compliance requirements
- Experience with program coordination
- Experience with or knowledge of evaluation and assessment processes, policies, and procedures
- Ability to collaboratively develop innovative programs and services
- Experience in or preparation to advise or teach, preferably in a community college setting
- Ability to create and foster a cooperative team approach
- Ability to handle complex details and deadlines
- Skills in effective verbal and written communication
- Ability to analyze data and prepare evaluative reports
- Experience in the use of a variety of computer software programs to access student records, and to prepare reports and other materials
